System logging service

Most important system services and many system devices provide status information in the form of system logs. These logs can show the utilization levels of the system, the status of various components of the system, potential unauthorized activity, and even indications of software and sometimes pending hardware failures.

For the reliable, robust, responsive and secure provision of services the system logs should be continuously monitored and analyzed. Any events that are not within normal conditions need to be detected in these logs and reported. The Taygeta Basic System log monitoring service subscriber can choose a variety of anomaly response options for each type of anomaly, these include: email, page or fax notification, or for high priority events a direct phone call.

The Taygeta Basic System log monitoring service can utilze Windows Event Logs, Unix syslogs, SNMP and SNMP-trap type logging.

The client must be able to establish a VPN to one of the Taygeta log monitoring servers (Taygeta can assist with this requirement). This is because the log monitoring protocols were originally intended for be used on a local network and are not secure for use outside of a VPN in a wide area network such as the Internet.
